In its new ranking of the best part-time and executive MBA programs of 2011, Bloomberg Businessweek emphasizes such programs' gain in popularity at the expense of traditional full-time programs.

Because of the uncertain economy, business professionals entering MBA programs today are less likely to leave full-time jobs and take on large amounts of student loan debt in order to earn their degree.

Part-time MBA programs across the country are rapidly evolving to focus on the specific needs of working professionals. Bill Burpitt, associate dean for graduate and executive programs at Elon University's Love School of Business (Businessweek's top-ranked part-time MBA program) said programs like this one "deliver great personal relationships" in addition to the standard training in finance and marketing.

The executive MBA rankings saw a shakeup, with the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business toppling Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management, which up until now had reigned supreme in the rankings.
