Case Competition Offers Real-World Experience

The top 10 finalists for the third annual International Case Competition on the Strategic Value of IT Management were announced Tuesday by CA Technologies, the School of Business Administration at Oakland University, Eller College of Management at the University of Arizona and Kelley School of Business at Indiana University. The final competition, scheduled to be held at the CA Technologies user conference, CA World 2011, in Las Vegas, November 13-15, challenges business students to evaluate a company's IT department and infrastructure and provide recommendations for improvement.

Students solve real-world problems in 'industry-academic collaboration' experience

Before arriving at the competition in November, 10 student teams will be handed a case study of a company in the face of great change. Once at CA World 2011, the teams will present their recommendations for how the company can strategically align technology solutions within the organization to address the issues it faces.

"The competition experience, provided by this industry-academic collaboration, provides significant lessons that will be beneficial to the professional growth of the students and their ability to link IT and its strategic value to business," said Dr. Ramesh Venkataraman, professor and chairman, MS in Information Systems Program, Kelley School of Business at Indiana University.
