The University of California, Irvine and the School of Management at Fudan University in China are partnering to create the U.S.-China Institute of Business and Law, according to a May 31, 2011 press release from Business Wire.

Representatives from UC Irvine's Paul Merage School of Business, UC Irvine's School of Law, and the School of Management at Fudan University participated in a formal signing ceremony in Shanghai at the Fudan campus to launch the first-ever institute of this kind.

U.S.-China Institute to be an integrative, collaborative forum for ideas in business and law

Andrew J. Policano, dean of the UC Irvine business school, said that "the vision for the institute is to create an open and public platform from which Chinese and American scholars, industry leaders, policy makers and practitioners can share ideas and foster a broader understanding of business, legal and socio-economic issues."

The institute, which is dedicated to promoting intellectual engagement and cooperation between China and the U.S., plans to bring together leaders in a variety of formats including academic publications, leadership summits and an annual conference. The institute will have facilities at both Chinese and U.S. campuses and will be led by international business expert John Graham, professor emeritus at Merage.
