MBA Programs in Michigan

Michigan's rich automotive history may be its economic claim to fame, but the state is also home to several other thriving industries. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (bls.gov), the following industries employed the most Michigan residents as of May 2011: trade, transportation and utilities; education and health services; government; professional and business services; and manufacturing. Graduates of MBA programs in Michigan could qualify for leadership roles in any of the above industries due to their advanced training and targeted business skills.

While professional, business and financial services have traditionally been the largest employers of MBA graduates, a June 2011 article in Businessweek points out that in recent years graduates have found work in a variety of industries, including government and education.

Michigan is home to 18 Fortune 500 companies, including Ford, General Motors, Kellogg and Dow Chemical. The automotive companies are centered in Detroit, while Kellogg and Dow Chemical are headquartered in Battle Creek and Midland, respectively.

According to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, employment in the professional and business services sector was highest in Detroit, Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor in May 2011.
