Michigan's rich automotive history may be its economic claim to fame, but the state is also home to several other thriving industries. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (bls.gov), the following industries employed the most Michigan residents as of May 2011: trade, transportation and utilities; education and health services; government; professional and business services; and manufacturing. According to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget, employment in the professional and business services sector was highest in Detroit, Grand Rapids and Ann Arbor in May 2011.
