Denver MBA Programs and Business Schools

Both Forbes and CNBC ranked Colorado the fifth best state for business in 2011. As the capital of this extremely business-friendly state and one of the largest cities in the Rocky Mountain region, Denver is a business hub of national and international importance. This is reflected in the diversity of its key industries, which include aerospace, bioscience, clean energy, financial services, telecommunications, and more. According to the Denver Economic Development Corporation (EDC), the city has the second-largest aerospace economy in the U.S. Denver boasts more than 400 aerospace companies, including Lockheed Martin, which employs more than 7,000 people in the metro area, according to the EDC. Ball Corporation and Raytheon are other major Denver-area aerospace companies.

With more than 300 days of sunshine each year, Denver is also a natural location for major solar power companies such as Abound, Ascent and SMA, says the EDC. Wind power companies like Vesta have also established headquarters in Denver. Cutting-edge bioscience research and development is undertaken in the city's Fitzsimmons Life Science District, and the EDC states that Denver ranks eighth among major U.S. metro areas for medical device company jobs. According to the EDC, four of the city's six largest employers are health care companies. The city's second-largest employer, CenturyLink, is a telecommunications giant. Major information technology employers include real estate website Trulia and IT hosting provider Latisys, but a highly favorable regulatory and tax environment is conducive to tech start-ups as well. As a big city, Denver also functions as a center of finance and other professional services industries with major employers including Wells Fargo Bank and Great-West Life & Annuity Insurance Company. And, of course, one of the city's signature companies is the MillerCoors Brewing Company.
