Edinburgh Business School Starts African Scholarship Program

Edinburgh Business School (the online Graduate School of Business of Heriot-Watt University in Scotland) is situated to make a major impact on current and future students who live in Africa by launching the African Scholarship Program. This program is to provide full scholarships to 250 African students (50 per year) during the next five years. 38 students from 14 African countries have already started their scholarship programs.

Edinburgh Business School's online MBA program educates 8,500 active students throughout the world, 2,199 of them in Africa. Other major markets include:

  • North and South America - 30 percent
  • Europe - 25 percent
  • Middle East - 15 percent
  • Asia - 10 percent

Online MBA Programs: Flexibility Is Important

Flexibility is key when it comes to online MBA programs and the African Scholarship Program was designed with that in mind. Says Alick Kitchin, business development director at Edinburgh Business School, to Financial Times: "From day one it was for working people. It's not one to do if you have just graduated and are not working yet."

However, the biggest impact is the financial assistance the scholarship provides. "I can't afford [to spend money on my own education], says Martha Sambani, a scholarship recipient. "[Edinburgh] is like my angel."
